The Charles W. Galloupe, Sr. Memorial Library is located at
the John Cabot House at 117 Cabot St. in Beverly. The library is a member of NMRLS
(Northeast Massachusetts Regional Library System) and we are in the process of cataloging
our book collection. To search for titles online, please use the MASSCAT Library Catalog, part of a union catalog for a
diverse group of Massachusetts libraries.
The collections include books, records, photographs, and newspapers relating to Beverly
and Essex County, as well as a large collection of maritime documents and genealogical
records.
Research Hours
Tuesday and Saturday 10am-4pm, and Wednesday 1pm-9pm. Alternate times can be scheduled
with advance arrangements. We strongly encourage researchers to schedule appointments in

Access to the research library and Walker Transportation Collection for non-members is
$5.00 per hour; access includes a tour of the Cabot House Museum. Beverly Historical
Society members receive free access. Teachers and students receive the first hour free of
charge. Please note that many items in our collections are stored in closed stacks,
and require a research fee to access. The Society is happy to provide historical or
genealogical research services.

NOTE: For security reasons the use of some items (manuscripts, deeds, diaries, ship
logs, and certain images) is limited to current members only. Most local
house research therefore requires a current membership. A photo ID is also required.

what is known, what data is sought and any sources already consulted. Please be as
detailed as possible and fill out the form completely, including both e-mail and postal
mailing address if possible. Photocopies of relevant materials are available for $.25 per
page.
Beverly Historical Society collaborated with Beverly High School and Massachusetts
Historical Society on an innovative primary research project by local students. Led by
teacher Dean Eastman and school librarian Kevin McGrath, students researched the life and
career of Nathan Dane, a prominent late 18th-century Beverly resident, in the research
libraries of Beverly and Massachusetts Historical Societies. To learn more about this
